Instagram will prioritize Reels in 2022

2021 is coming to an end, and the social network has undergone a series of changes throughout the year that currently position it as a direct competitor to TikTok. And just like the features of the social network where TikTokers reign, it intends to abandon photo posts and prioritize videos, this time through Reels.

Instagram director Adam Mosseri, through his Twitter profile, has created and published audiovisual content to showcase new ideas he and his creative team are working on, which they hope to see the light of day next year. According to what he explains, the social network must rethink itself in line with the world we are living in, which is changing at a speed we weren't used to, adding that they will strive to add greater account security.

A few months ago, the same CEO announced the elimination of IGTV, which we could call a solution to ensure that videos continue to be used but in a different way, in addition to monetizing the content shared by creators and using it as formalized work through the social network.

“This next year will be pivotal for Instagram. In addition to our industry-leading safety and well-being efforts, we are focused on these four key priorities. I hope everyone gets some rest during the holidays. See you in the new year!” wrote the Instagram CEO, attached to the video explaining the new features.

In the video Mosseri explained that "We are going to redouble our focus in the video". Instagram will also "consolidate all of our video formats around Reels and continue to grow that product," he added.

"We're also going to be very focused on messaging," he explained in the video. We believe Instagram can be the best place for people to connect with their friends about their interests. And Instagram needs to embrace the fact that messaging is that primary form of communication." Adding to this, the CEO asserted that transparency would be a priority in 2022.

"Creators are at the forefront of the power shift we're seeing across all industries, from institutions to individuals," he added. "There will be a number of new creator monetization products, ways to help creators make a living on our platform, that I'm particularly excited about for next year."
