Twitter acquires messaging platform Quill

Twitter has announced the acquisition of Quill, a messaging service that was launched in February of this year. The tool's goals are focused on productivity, making it a competitor to platforms like Discord and Slack.

It is not yet known exactly how it will be integrated into Twitter's features, but Twitter does assure us that they are testing new technological updates to optimize the user experience. In fact, the social network has demonstrated in its latest updates that it works hand in hand with innovation, subsequently introducing changes such as fleets, conversation chat, and others.

According to Nic Caldwell, who serves as general manager of Twitter's core technology, the acquisition of Quill seeks to make direct messages a more useful and expressive way for people to have conversations on the service.

“Ludwig Pettersson and his talented team created Quill as a fresher, more deliberate way to communicate. We’re bringing their expertise and creativity to Twitter as we work to make messaging tools like direct messages a more useful and expressive way for people to have conversations on the service,” the manager tweeted, attaching to a Twitter thread where he shared the message welcoming QuillChat to the social network.

The curious thing is that, regardless of how the platforms are linked, Quill itself will be shut down as an independent service. It was also announced that the platform will cease to operate on Saturday, September 11, meaning it will close its doors less than a year after its opening. This isn't the first time Twitter has done this; its takeover of the chat-focused messaging platform, Sphere, also worked along the same lines.
