What is an empathy map?
An empathy map is a tool that allows us to put ourselves in the shoes of our buyers or clients. We can delve deeper into our potential client's needs, as well as analyze deeper aspects: their emotionality.
Some of the aspects we will explore are what the person we want as a client feels and thinks. What are the influences of their environment, their inspirations, etc. We need to dig deep enough to understand their behavior and everything that influences their purchasing decision.
It will help us predict consumer trends and detect people's needs, giving us a head start in sales. It also provides a wealth of information when developing our marketing strategy, both online and offline.
How to create an empathy map?
To begin, there are a series of key questions we should ask ourselves about the person we imagine. Start with a name, their age, whether they have a family or children, and what they do for a living. As much detail as you can.
Once we have a mental profile of this person, we need to answer the questions: What do they think? What do they feel? These questions refer to their concerns, worries, and aspirations.
Add more questions: What do they see? This answer will clarify what visual stimuli this person experiences around them. We could include here what type of audiovisual content they watch: series, movies, television programs, reality shows, etc. What blogs do they read? What type of website do they shop on? What do they listen to?
What do they say and do? This part is very interesting, as it helps us glimpse their weaknesses. In short, this explores the person's contradictions and the goals they want to achieve. Are they looking to make a change? You'll be able to understand their fears and anxieties. Don't be afraid; it's something no one can escape. However, depending on your lifestyle, your employment situation, or whether or not you have children, your fears and worries will vary greatly from person to person.
What are their aspirations and desires? It's about understanding that person's dreams, challenges, short- and medium-term goals, and how they would like to be. Perhaps your business could help them. With all this, we'll have invaluable information to guide us and meet those needs.
