Starting in 2022, Microsoft Teams will function as a virtual metaverse that allows you to attend meetings with personalized avatars. It will be available for cell phones and computers and will also feature specific locations to connect the physical and virtual worlds. This Mesh seeks to compete with the Metaverse announced by Facebook.
“Think of the metaverse as a new version, or a new vision, of the internet, one where people come together to communicate, collaborate, and share with a personal virtual presence on any device. Organizations can also create immersive spaces, metaverses, within Teams,” explains the Microsoft Latin America News Center.
The features will allow users to be virtually united in different physical locations and experience collaborative and shared holographic experiences with Teams productivity tools. They will also be able to join meetings, chat, collaborate on documents, and more.
“Welcome to Mesh for Teams. As a company focused on productivity and knowledge workers, this is something customers have been asking for, and it combines with the mixed reality vision we’ve been working on for 12 years. It’s all coming together,” explains the narrator of the presentation, which you can find on the Microsoft YouTube channel.
