Instagram reconciles with chronological order

Several updates ago, Instagram used chronological order, as well as in messages. All of this was before the social network began working with algorithms.

Currently, the algorithms work according to content, so the user can only access the stories of the profiles with which they interact the most. The more they interact, the more their profile will appear, even if they have already viewed the stories or created them.

“We want people to have meaningful control over their experience. We've been experimenting with Favorites, a way to decide which posts you want to see at the top, and we're working on another option to see posts from the people you follow in chronological order,” Instagram explained via its Twitter profile.

“We want to be clear that we're creating new options, giving people more choices so they can decide what works best for them, without switching everyone to a chronological feed. You can expect more on this early next year!” they added to the thread.

According to the social network, this update, already used between 2010 and 2016, will be available in 2022. The chronological feed will be available as an additional option for browsing photos and videos, not as the only option.

"It's important to me that people have meaningful control over their experience, and I think a place where you can see everything from the accounts you follow in chronological order is important," explained Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram.
