The news was announced through a public statement posted on the Instagram blog. Meta, the parent company of the social network, indicated the idea of facilitating income on the social network through the tool.
“With Instagram subscriptions, creators can strengthen the connection with their most loyal followers and increase their recurring monthly income, giving their subscribers exclusive access to content and benefits, all within the platform they already interact with,” the social network stated in its statement.
Starting January 19, a group of content creators in the United States will be able to learn about and test the “Subscribe” button on their account profiles. Thanks to this, the creator's followers will be able to access exclusive content, such as broadcasts, stories, lives, etc. And meanwhile, creators will be able to award recognitions to their subscribed followers with a virtual medal.
Some of the content creators already known to have this option are @alanchikinchow, @sedona._, @alizakelly, @kelseylynncook, @elliottnorris, @jordanchiles, @jackjerry, @bunnymichael, @donalleniii, and @lonnieiiv.
As the tool iterates through its user experience and subscriber phases, other countries will be able to enable the option. The social network also indicated that it will not charge a percentage until 2023.
