Twitch was launched in 2011 and is a live streaming platform owned by Amazon, specializing in live streaming of video games, music, lifestyle content, and more. It has also become one of YouTube\'s direct competitors.
The streaming network has recently updated its usage policies, meaning that usernames containing references to sex, drugs, or even bodily fluids will not be allowed to be registered or used. Twitch\'s stated main objective is to foster a community that is free of names that could be considered offensive or inappropriate.
\"Usernames are really important on Twitch. They are your text avatar in chat and a key aspect of a creator\'s channel branding. They are searchable and visible across the entire platform,\" the company stated in a press release.
The update will take effect on March 1st. Furthermore, accounts containing these parameters will not be allowed, with the exception of alcohol, tobacco, or marijuana. “Although we have removed many offensive usernames reported under our current policy, we believe a stronger standard is needed to cultivate a diverse and inclusive global community on Twitch,” the company stated.
Meanwhile, accounts that do not comply with this policy will be suspended, and users will need to request an account reset along with a username change.
